Helen Liang — Solicitor Director

Helen is the founder of Liang & Co Lawyers and provides legal services in English and Chinese.

Prior to starting her own law firm, Helen gained extensive experience in various areas of law from her time in a prominent law firm in Queensland, where she worked closely with their leading national energy and resources team and their corporate advisory and compliance team. Helen is also experienced in negotiating complex cross-border transactions between Australian and Chinese companies in the energy and resources sectors. She has provided legal advice on mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, corporate governance, foreign investment review board applications, shareholders agreements, tenements acquisition, farm-in agreements, commercial agreements as well as service agreements. Helen’s expertise also extends to commercial, immigration and employment law.

Helen holds a Juris Doctor degree and is admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia. As an immigrant herself, Helen also holds a masters degree in China and worked as a journalist in a prominent financial newspaper in Beijing before moving to Australia.

Kenneth Bell — Consultant Solicitor

Practicing in both the public and private sectors since 1992, Ken is highly experienced in family law, commercial litigation, criminal law, native title, land related litigation, Workcover claims, ATO and State Revenue litigation.

His distinct working experience with ATO Brisbane (from 2006 to 2023) includes the following:

1. The conduct of defended tax recovery cases, mainly through applications for summary judgment, in the Supreme, District or Magistrates Courts.

2. Advocacy in the Federal, Supreme, District and Magistrates Courts.

3. Defending applications to set aside judgments, bankruptcy notices, and statutory demands.

4. The defence of preference claims brought by liquidators.

5. National technical management of the ATO’s outsourced bankruptcy and winding up litigation.

6. Managing formal interviews, where taxpayers were summoned to the ATO to be examined on oath.

7. Litigation under Part IVC of the Taxation Administration Act (review of assessments).
